Oxygen-poor blood from the body enters the heart through the superior and inferior vena cava and then is pumped to the lungs through the pulmonary artery.

Oxygen-rich blood leaves the lungs through the pulmonary vein and returns to the heart. The heart pumps the oxygen-rich blood to the body through the aorta.
