Sedimentary rock is formed from the mud and sand that settle at the bottom of seas, lakes, and swamps.
Usually, animal fossils result when an organism dies and is quickly buried by sediment. The soft tissue decomposes. Minerals replace the bones and create stones. The fossils are actually rocks.
