I am excited to announce the publication of the latest anthology from Collierville Christian Writers group: 250 Years of We the People. We are honoring America’s history and spirit in fictional stories inspired by actual people. Twenty writers contributed to this work, and you will also find the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights at the end of the book. What a fun way to have easy access to these important documents!

I was inspired to write about the Smithsonian Institute, a place that I enjoy visiting and find to be a national treasure. I learned recently that the Smithsonian was not only not founded by an American, but the founder never set foot on American soil. How could that be? I had to learn more. Mr. Smithson donated his entire estate to the formation of the Institute. The US wasn’t first on the inheritance list though, so we could have missed out. It is an interesting story. Since Mr. Smithson didn’t divulge his reason, some theories exist to make a guess. I used this idea to create a story about a teacher who assigned this mystery to the class. They have to research the history, decide what his motive might have been, and present their ideas. There are no wrong answers, since the truth is unknown.

This is just one of the many stories for you to enjoy in this anthology. Happy reading!
